Bear tactic - I wszystko jasne... :>
As for my Bear build it's nothing special. It begins with a typical "efficient" (non-Huntress, non-rush) NE build....
- 3 wisps to Gold
- 1 wisp to Wood
- 1 wisp to AoW
- queue 4 wisps
- 1st wisp out to Moonwell
- 2nd wisp out to Altar
- next 2 Wisps to Gold (that's 5 on Gold, 9/10 supply)
- when Moonwell builds, that Wisp to Wood
- when AoW builds, that Wisp to Wood
- build 1st archer
- when Altar builds, that Wisp to Wood
- build Hero
- build 2nd archer
- as soon as you hit 50 Wood, build 2nd Moonwell with a Wood wisp - this is VITAL
- build 3rd archer
- as soon as you hit 100 Wood, build Hunters Hall with a Wood wisp
Ok, now I am at 20/20 supply with 9 wisps, 3 archers and a hero; 2nd Moonwell and HH on the way. Start creeping now. Also notice no wisp or building was redudant AT ALL during any of this. The above is what I call the typical "efficient" NE build. Hunt massers/rushers probably don't build like this.
- when 2nd Moonwell builds, that Wisp back to Wood
- build 2 more Wisps, all to Wood (supply = 22/30 now)
- build 4th Archer (24/30)
- when HH builds, that wisp back to Wood or scout
- Upgrade Moon attack at HH
- upgrade ToL NOW
- build 1st Huntress (27/30)
- build 3rd Moonwell with wood wisp
- build 2nd Huntress (30/30)
- upgrade Moon defence at HH
From there it's up to you. As soon as ToL upgrades, I make an AoL and replace the wisp. I mean do this IMMEDIATELY you hit tier 2. While this is happening, I am alternately pumping Hunts and Archers, and upgrading Moon att/def whenever I can. When the AoL finished, I usually have 6 Archers and 5 Hunts (all 2/2) plus my hero in my Army. From there I pump bears instead, and use the AoW to get improved bows and Sentinel. After the first 3 Bears, upgrade them to Adept for Rejuv. Then go back to pumping 2 or 3 more Bears. Also resume making Hunts as well, and a couple of Dryads if you want (at least 1 for each Archer that died). [My Hunts die more often than my Archers, so I usually find I'm pumping Bears and Hunts rather than Dryads and Hunts]. You should have a fully running expansion by now as well, to support those Bears. Personally, I completely ignore Low Upkeep, and use only 1 hero for the Bear Build (usually DH or PotM).
So....I end up with Ctrl+1 being hero plus 6 Hunts + 5 Bears, or the other way round depending on who's died. And Ctrl+2 is 6 or more Archers, or a mix of Archers and Dryads, again depending on who died previously. This Army in itself is quite nasty, but watch out for Air!! The key here is that the Hunts take most damage so they must be on the same control group as the Bears, allowing very efficient and easy (using the mini-portaits) casting of Rejuv. 5 Bears can cast Rejuv a LOT, so I cast it as soon as I see a Hunt or Bear getting focused on. This seems to work very well, and losses are minimal.
Notice you don't need to go for the other upgrade path until you are well on the way to ToE, as it only affects DotC's in Bear form which is a wee bit away as yet. And as stated above, upgrade Armour first.
Even at tier 2 this army is very strong. Whenever things get messy, your fast moving Hunts shield the tier 2 Bears. Although even at that, DotC at tier 2 pack a punch and have great cooldown (1.5 I think). Also, they have Medium armour making them more resilient to Normal attack than your typical casters. And bizarrely, everyone fires at the Hunts!! Whom I'm Rejuv'ing! And who are easily replacable!
Anyways, until they are tier 3, Bears are most often Roaring and Rejuving the Hunts from the 2nd row. The in-built formation even puts Bears on the 2nd row behind Hunts until they are in Bear form, which is nice.
And that's it really. When you hit tier 3, get Master training for the Bears. And there you have it, an army of tier 3 melee from more or less the moment you hit tier 3. This is a force to be reckoned with because it is a mass of tier 3 heavy melee before the opposion can possibly get the same (unless they're NE). This leaves space for you to go to the other reason you hit tier 3 - Chims.
Basically, other races are doing well to have 1 tier 3 melee by the time you have 6. Orcs are the slowest unless they rush for Taurens. But I always find someone rushing to tier 3 like that is easy prey early on.
And finally, in my experience, a Hunt/Bear combo with Archers behind destroys a Hunt mass, as long as the Bears are Adept at least. Rejuv is the perfect anti-focus-fire spell, and Roar just plain rocks. [Most Hunt masses I've seen have no Bears so no Roar, this tips the scales massively in my favour.]
And Ultimator, yes this build is for a LONG game or big team game. I like to play like that. A lot of games end in tier 2. But at least then I've got tier 2 Bears Roaring and Rejuv'ing, and I wasted no cash at all on the AoL upgrade path, aside from Adept Bears obviously, so even if its a "tier 2 game", the Build is efficient. But yeah I like long games in general.
P.S. The biggest problem I have is versus heavy Air. I'm still working on what to do about that. And also no doubt some can see great weaknesses in thsi buld, I'd love to hear them.
